In the House, I carried SB 1288, a measure that requires food handler licensees to complete a program on celiac disease and on the safe handling of gluten-free foods.
This legislation ensures that food handlers know about the disease and its symptoms, how to properly clean surfaces and utensils, label products, and prevent cross-contamination.
The bill passed out of the House unanimously. I thank my colleagues for seeing the need for this important legislation to ensure those with celiac disease can safely eat outside of their home without risk of exposure to gluten.
