SPRINGFIELD, IL… State Representative Regan Deering (R-Decatur) joined her House Republican colleagues by signing onto a letter calling on Governor Pritzker and the General Assembly to pass meaningful property tax relief and reform before the end of the legislative session.
In the letter, House Republicans included a list of proposals they would like to see passed before the end of the Spring Session, which is set to adjourn May 31, 2026. Those measures include:
- A cap on reserve funds held by local units of government
- Increasing the percentage reimbursed for LGDF
- TIF Reform
- Consolidation of local units of government by voter choice
- Property tax relief through state grants for education
- A hard cap on property taxes
“Illinois families are being crushed by unaffordability here in Illinois,” said Rep. Deering. “Our state has the highest property taxes in the nation, taxing hardworking families out of their homes because they cannot keep up with the high cost of living. Providing relief starts with us and we owe it to our constituents to work towards making life more affordable.”
Deering, a co-sponsor on many bills that seek to make life more affordable, including property tax measures, says the time to act is now.
“These measures are common-sense bills, I am joining my colleagues in calling for the Governor and the rest of the 104th General Assembly to get to work and provide the desperately needed relief and reform today,” concluded Deering.
