Redistricting House Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment Passed Along Partisan Lines

Today, the House of Representatives passed House Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment (HJRCA) 28, filed by Speaker Welch, which rewrites the standards for legislative mapmaking in Illinois. If passed, HJRCA 28 would permanently embed one of the most flawed and partisan mapmaking systems in the country into the Illinois Constitution. When politicians choose their votes, voters lose their voice.

All Republicans were a strong NO vote on the measure. This now moves to the Senate, but unlike a bill, once passed out of the Senate, the initiative will be placed on the ballot in November. Illinoisans deserve fair representation, not sneaky attempts to overtake the current process.
