Can we afford to keep the Bears?
Last night, HB 910 was brought to the House Floor for a vote. The bill is coined as mega projects bill aimed at providing economic development, more jobs, and property tax relief for all of Illinois. However, the safeguards are not strong enough and do not extend to all Illinoisans—like rural Illinoisans, working as farmers and running small businesses.
While I am supportive of economic development, new jobs, and property tax relief, especially across rural Illinois, there are serious flaws to this legislation. This bill looks less like statewide developed policy and more like a special deal tailored for a billionaire sports franchise.
Illinois needing to incentivize growth at the expense of taxpayers should be a glaring example that what we are doing now isn’t working. We need to offer real reform, real relief, and real opportunities.
