Deering Launches “Reading Plants a Seed” Summer Reading Program for K-5 Students

DECATUR, IL… State Representative Regan Deering (R-Decatur) is hosting her summer reading program, “Reading Plants a Seed,” and is encouraging all Kindergarten through 5th grade students who live in or attend school in the 88th House District to participate.

“Reading is a crucial part of everyday life, so I am happy to host this program again,” said Rep. Deering. “Joining the program is a great way for students to stay engaged in the learning process over the summer months. I hope all Kindergarten through 5th grade students will join me in reading this summer!”

To participate, students must read eight books over summer break and have a parent or guardian verify the books they completed. Books with more than 150 pages may count as two books. If a student reads a book for another summer reading program, it may also be counted toward this program.

Summer reading submissions must be submitted electronically or mailed to Rep. Deering’s office by July 15. To submit online, visit RepDeering.com and click on “Summer Reading” under the Resources tab. Paper submissions may be mailed to Rep. Regan Deering, 419 E. Ash Ave., Decatur, IL 62526.

Once all forms are collected, participating students will receive an invitation to attend a certificate ceremony with Rep. Deering later this summer. Students who participate will also receive an official Illinois House of Representatives certificate commemorating their achievement.

For more information or to request electronic copies of the form, please contact Rep. Deering’s office at (217) 876-1968.
