Deering Opposed to Governor Signing FY27 Budget

DECATUR, IL… State Representative Regan Deering (R-Decatur) issued the following statement after Governor JB Pritzker signed the partisan FY27 budget. The budget spends a record $55.9 billion and is paid for with roughly $800 million in new taxes and fees.

“It is appalling that Governor Pritzker made the decision to sign the budget into law while families are being crushed by the rising costs of everyday life,” said Rep. Deering. “While Pritzker touts affordability, his budget delivers the exact opposite, prioritizing pay raises for lawmakers, giving away money to noncitizens, and segregating funds for Democrat-only projects.”

Deering said that Illinois clearly has its priorities mixed up, as evident by the FY27 budget.

“Illinois continues its serious spending problem with each consecutive budget that is signed,” noted Deering. “If Democrats were truly concerned with providing affordability to our hardworking families, seniors, farmers, and small businesses, they would have taken up many of the proposals offered by House Republicans this Session that focus on reform and providing relief to struggling Illinois families. Instead, we get the same broken record from Democrats, blaming the federal government when in fact these budgets are a result of decades of broken partisan policies and promises.”

The budget now goes into effect on July 1, 2026.
