Deering Calls on Governor to Work with Trump Administration to Combat Chicago Crime

DECATUR, IL… State Representative Regan Deering (R-Decatur) issued the following statement after Governor Pritzker’s recent comments about not wanting to take help from the federal government to combat crime in Chicago and the collar counties:

“Crime in the City of Chicago has been out of control for far too long,” said Rep. Deering. “Governor Pritzker should accept help from the federal government or anyone who wants to make Chicago safer. He has had plenty of time to work with legislators to be tough on crime but instead prioritized his bid for the White House and signed the SAFE-T Act and other soft-on-crime approaches. The City of Chicago is desperate for help, and it is obvious we cannot count on our current leaders to make those changes.”

President Trump has focused his efforts on combating crime in large cities in the United States, starting with Washington D.C. Since his intervention, our nation’s capital has cut its crime nearly in half.

“Last year, to prepare for the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Governor Pritzker was quick to enlist the help of the federal government, but this year has argued that federal action would be unconstitutional,” continued Deering. “It’s time for Governor Pritzker to have a genuine conversation with our President to work together to ensure the City of Chicago and the surrounding areas are a place residents and visitors feel safe.”
